The GEMIAL project develops a federated digital twin for the food industry that integrates IoT, AI, computer vision, virtual reality, and multi-cloud architecture with the aim of synchronizing production planning with industrial cold management. The consortium is composed of eight entities that combine sector expertise and technological capabilities: two Innovative Business Groups (CLUSAGA and DIHGIGAL) and six companies (SOLTEC, PANOIMAGEN, GRADHOC, ECO3G, IGNACIO GONZÁLEZ MONTES, and COESCO DEZA).
Objectives
- Development of a digital ecosystem to optimize energy efficiency, traceability, and sustainability in the food industry.
- Creation of a common data framework and a platform integrating digital twins.
- Use of advanced sensing technologies and predictive models to automate data collection and anticipate energy consumption.
- Validation in real environments with push and pull production models.
- Ensuring cybersecurity and compliance with regulatory and ESG requirements.
Impact
The GEMIAL project will boost the competitiveness and sustainability of the food industry by reducing energy costs and waste, digitalizing processes through Industry 4.0 technologies, and improving traceability and operational efficiency, while also contributing to regulatory compliance and the sector’s ecological and technological transition.
Project Consortium
- Food industry companies: IGNACIO GONZÁLEZ MONTES and COESCO DEZA / COCINA CULINARIA.
- Technology companies: SOLTEC, PANOIMAGEN, and GRADHOC.
- Companies specialized in sustainability and energy efficiency: ECO3G.
- Innovative Business Groups (AEI): CLUSAGA (lead entity) and DIHGIGAL (collaborating entity).
Benefits
The integration of technologies such as AI, IoT, and digital twins enables the development of a flexible and scalable solution that optimizes energy consumption, improves process traceability and sustainability, reduces food waste, and facilitates regulatory compliance, while eliminating information silos and enhancing operational efficiency and business competitiveness, especially for SMEs in the agri-food sector.
Funding
GEMIAL receives funding from the 2025 call of the support program for Innovative Business Groups (AEI) of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, and is coordinated by the Galicia Food Cluster (Clusaga).
